Every winter, I end up relying on certain staples more than others, even though I have lots of clothing options in my closet. With colder weather, it’s all about layers, so I like to have my inner and outermost ones selected ahead of time to make choosing my outfits easier.
Wearing a dress may seem like a challenge when it’s cold out, but as long as your inner layers fit close to your body, which helps with warmth, you can virtually layer anything over them, including a dress. My go-to under layers are always a turtleneck or heat tech long sleeve, and leggings or jegging — bonus points if they’re heat tech. Once you have that simple base on, it’s a an easy outfit formula you can use every single day as your base, then you can get creative with the rest of your look. My latest go-to is a versatile shirtdress, as well as a warm outer-layer like a cape or poncho.
I wore this look on a recent work trip to LA when the weather was in the low fifties and raining, but I was so warm I could’ve gone without the cape!
