No matter what your makeup routine, in my opinion, you can always add some pro polish to your process. Over the years, I’ve picked up some great tricks from the makeup artists I’ve worked with on shoots, each of which can make a big difference in your overall appearance, whether you’re going to be in front of the camera or just want to take your everyday look up a notch.

From a quick trick for perfecting your hairline to an easy way to instantly brighten your eyes, here are the five makeup hacks I live by:

1. Highlight with Rose-Colored Vaseline
Want to amp up your skin’s natural dewiness? Dab a bit of rose-colored Vaseline on your eyelids, along your upper cheek bones, and down the bridge of your nose. It will give your eyes a youthful glow and make your favorite features stand out even more.
2. Find Your Eyes’ Complementary Color

Not all eyeliner and shadow hues work on every eye color. To make your eyes really pop, stick to these rules: For green eyes, use colors with a red or plum undertones, like copper, mauve, or eggplant. If you have blue eyes, try orange-tinted colors like coral or warm browns. And for brown eyes, stay away from black, which can mute your natural eye color. Instead, go for deep bronze, copper, or even a contrasting color like blue. Can’t decide? Try shades of purple, a universally flattering hue that complements all irises.

3. Make Your Concealer Do Double Duty
Speaking of eye makeup… Concealer isn’t just for covering up under-eye circles and blemishes — you can also use it as an eyeshadow base to help the color stay fresh all day. Dab it on with your makeup brush, allow it to dry, and set with translucent powder before adding your eye makeup. It will instantly brighten your eyes, too.
4. Perfect Your Hairline
If your hairline is uneven or you have a few stray grays peeking through, don’t worry: Just brush eyeshadow the same color as your hair along your hairline to create the shape and color consistency you want. (But be careful if it’s raining, though — the color will run off if it gets wet!)
5. Open Your Eyes Instantly
I’ve discussed the magic white eyeliner can work before. Now’s the time to put it into action! A quick swipe along the bottom waterline of each eye instantly adds the illusion of an extra few hours’ sleep — what are you waiting for?!
