Summer is officially here, which means warmer weather and — for those of us curly-haired girls — potentially unruly locks! The good news is, with some humidity-fighting hair care products and a few easy, go-to styles, you can look sleek even on the hottest of days.
Just in time for summer events like weddings, graduations, and family trips, here are four quick and easy styles that look way harder to pull off than they actually are.
You can never go wrong with a classic ponytail — especially for everyday wear. Instead of putting it on top of your head, try setting it a little bit back, near the crown. It keeps the look sophisticated rather than girlish, and prevents the tail itself from getting in your face.
Understated and elegant, the side braid takes just a minute to complete and keeps the hair out of your face all day long — all you need is to know how to do a basic three-section braid and an elastic band. To make it look extra sleek for more upscale occasions, do a super straight, deep side part and cover the hair tie by wrapping ribbon or a leather string around it.
One of my favorite looks year-round is a top knot — and for summer, I like to dress it up with a headband or scarf, which also keeps stray locks and sweat out of my face and off my neck. The perfect look for fancier occasions like weddings or graduations, the low side chignon makes you look elegant in a flash, and works especially well on curly haired gals. Just pull your hair into a low side ponytail, twist the tail loosely into a bun, and secure it with pins near the nape of your neck. Because it sits so low, this is also a great option if you’re planning to wear a hat!
