As a busy woman who wears many hats, anything that helps me save time and care for my family better is a MUST. And while I love shopping and typically do 100% of mine online, lately I find myself having less and less time to browse online. So when Stitch Fix, a personal styling service based in San Francisco, invited me to visit their headquarters and learn how they’re changing the game, I could barely contain myself!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Stitch Fix, think of them as your partner in personal style: A personal styling service that delivers a box of awesome to your door each month, every season, or you can order a Fix whenever it’s best for you for you, and your family. Here’s how it works: after filling out a style profile online, one of their 3,000+ fashion experts handpicks pieces that fit your likes + needs, and sends you an amazing box of goodies, from clothing to shoes and accessories. You then have 3 days to try on the pieces and decide which to keep, and those you don’t love can simply be sent back. Shipping is free both ways. If everything works (which it often does) you get 25% off your purchase of the entire box.

Upon visiting their headquarters recently, my mind was immediately blown by the amount of passion and downright intelligent way they run their business. I spent two days meeting with their buying, fit and styling teams, taking tours of their offices, operations and warehouses to understand the journey of a Fix (aka a styled box), from A-Z.

One of the most exciting things that sets Stitch Fix apart from other styling services is that they cater to the whole family, including men’s, women’s, plus, petites, and kids starting at size 2T! They originally started with women’s in 2011, with a goal to help each client be her best self, then eventually added on all of the other categories with the intention of styling people no matter their age, size or budget. Something they’re really proud of is the fact that they launched plus sizes 18 months ago and the service keeps getting better, with tons of new styles added every season. How do they do it all, and do it well? Stitch Fix collects micro-data from all of its clients and uses it to find the right clothing options for each client, including style preference, fit and much more.

One of the most striking things about Stitch Fix is their company mission. Not only do they aim to help people be their best selves, but they live and breathe this ethos in their offices and through the people they employ, encouraging an open, honest, equality based environment where employees can thrive both personally and professionally. Everyone I met throughout my stay was genuinely happy with the work they were doing and enthusiastic about the collective change they were making in the industry.

I’ve been receiving fixes over the last few months leading up to my visit, and I’m honestly impressed with not only the love and care that goes into each Fix, but the thoughtfulness as well. As a person who works in the fashion industry and is constantly shopping, it’s rare that anyone can shop for me and be successful, but I was surprised and impressed with my very first Fix, and continue to be! My stylist not only chooses things she knows I’ll definitely love, but she makes it a point to surprise me with things I wouldn’t necessarily pick for myself that I do in fact need, like a sleek black carryall tote, everyday leggings with the most amazing fabric ever, and the versatile cardigan in my last Fix. There’s nothing better than a company who promises to make a difference + be amazing at it, and delivers!
