Last week I shared my favorite fall trends, including wearing metallics during the day, but I personally never thought I’d figure out how to pull it off until I saw this skirt. With so many metallic trend pieces to choose from – from clothing to shoes and accessories, it can be overwhelming to figure out how to incorporate the trend into your wardrobe. The key to making it work? Select a single item in a silhouette that appeals to your personal style – in this case a pleated A-line skirt.

To downplay the eye-catching metallic color, I paired it with this black and white tweed, Chanel lookalike jacket, allowing the yellow to really pop. To finish the look, I added leopard flats as a fun way to stick to neutral tones but add interest. I love how modern-classic a leopard print looks when paired with black and white.

This look is a prime example of how to incorporate a hard-to-wear trend (not to mention hard-to-wear color and fabric!) into your wardrobe. Pairing a metallic skirt with neutral tones downplays the trendiness a bit, while keeping the look of-the-moment, yet classically modern.
