I started creating my own Halloween costumes back in junior high out of pure disappointment in ready-made costumes. Needless to say, I’ve gotten in the habit of using items in my closet or things I can buy and easily integrate into my wardrobe after Halloween- thrift stores are amazing for this! Here’s a flashback to what I wore last year:

MINNIE MOUSE

This year I can’t decide between famed Mexican painter Frida Kahlo and Egyptian Queen Cleopatra, so here’s a peak at my costume inspiration board on Pinterest and details on how I’m putting together both looks:

FRIDA KAHLO

To recreate Frida Kahlo’s signature look, you’ll need an embroidered dress, shawl, flower crown, pendant necklace, earrings, simple sandals and Frida’s famous unibrow.

CLEOPATRA

For Cleopatra’s look inspired by the epic 1963 film, you’ll need a maxi dress, metallic belt, crown, arm cuff, statement necklace, lace-up sandals and her infamous exaggerated eyeliner with electric blue eyeshadow.
