Early in my former tech career, I remember getting frustrated with the conservative work outfits I had to wear every day. But with a lot of experimentation, I began realize that work wear can actually be stylish, modern, and fun. You just need to think a little outside the box by adding on-trend flair to a sophisticated, office-appropriate silhouette.
Although I don’t work in a traditional office anymore, I still appreciate well-designed work wear, and this OOTD is definitely something I’d wear to the office. The pieces are plays on traditional work wear staples – a white blouse and tailored pants – but have details that make them more fashion-forward.
I love the flattering peplum cut of this top. The detailing makes the top feel special and feminine, yet the higher neckline keeps it appropriate for any business situation. The embroidery is a fun and understated touch that makes me want to wear this top out of the office, too (think: with jeans for a weekend at the beach or a flowy maxi skirt for date night). Want to wear the top twice in the same week? Just add a well-placed accessory, like a brooch at the neck closure, or a belt or ribbon around your waist.
Now, on to these amazing pants. At first glance, they are just traditional office wear, except for two key details: They’ve got a sleeker silhouette, thanks to the slightly tapered legs and super flattering pocket placement, and they come in a bunch of beautiful colors that are great alternatives to basic gray or black. I chose olive because it’s versatile and flatters my skin tone, but I also love these pants in a dusty rose and Aruba Blue, a deep teal. They’re super affordable, so you could get more than one pair if you have a hard time choosing!
With this outfit in my closet, I feel prepared for any meeting – in an office or otherwise.
