With spring officially here, I’ve been looking for new additions to my jacket collection that feel fresh and unexpected. Bold colors and prints are always head-turners, but this season, I’ve actually been wearing an under-the-radar classic on repeat. That’s right, I’m talking about tweed!

Yes, tweed can sometimes look like something out of the back of your grandmother’s closet — a little dated and too stuffy for everyday. And while grandmas are pretty cool, that’s not always the look you’re going for! So, how do you update it?

For spring, I’ve been trying new spins on the classic that are fresh, modern, and anything but out-of-date. Streamlined silhouettes obviously take center stage, but even if you’re wearing a vintage tweed jacket, the key is to pair it with pieces that are trend-forward and current, to balance any potential stuffiness tweed is usually associated with.

One of my favorite looks this year has been a tweed blazer paired with jeans and a point-toe pump for meetings or date nights. It’s chic and current, yet the tweed adds a sophistication and polish that feels classic and timeless. For work, try a tweed jacket with a pencil skirt and heels. For casual weekends, pair a dress with a tweed jacket draped over your shoulders. It’s proof that an old classic can learn new tricks!
