Athleisure is a big trend this season – and not just when it comes to dressing for a workout. Incorporating more casual activewear pieces into your everyday wardrobe is a great option for spring and summer, especially as the weather warms up. I personally want to be as mobile as possible, and as much as I love a good pair of block heels, they’re just not always practical.
I’ve always loved the look of pairing casual staples with more elevated pieces, whether it’s a sweatshirt worn over a button-down or a basic tee under a blazer. It’s the perfect balance of comfort and class that can work in a variety of scenarios. Currently, my favorite styling hack is wearing sneakers with a dress, which might seem counterintuitive, but as long as you choose a dress that has some movement (i.e. not a pencil skirt that binds your calves) it totally works!
Here, I’m wearing an off-shoulder dress paired with my go-to white converse. I wear them multiple times every week because they’re comfy, classic and literally go with everything, from skirts, dresses, jeans and joggers. In addition to being a great outfit for weekend activities and everyday errands, this is also a perfect look for travel, when you’re on your feet all day and don’t have time to go back to your hotel to change. Just throw a scarf in your tote, wrap a jacket or blazer around your waist and you’re ready for anything!
The one thing to note with this look is that you unfortunately can’t pull it off with old sneakers. My rule for still looking elegant while dressed down is making sure your shoes don’t have tons of scuffs or dirt on them. That means your beat-up running shoes won’t cut it – but it’s all the more reason to add a sleek pair of fashion sneakers to your line-up!
