I can’t help but feel giddy when I think about firing up the barbecue and hanging out with friends and family all day before watching fireworks on the fourth of July. No matter how old I get, the fireworks are still magical and sitting under the stars never gets old! It’s so special to be able to share the excitement with my son, nieces and nephews, and it brings out the kid in me every year.

This year I’m taking festive dressing to the next level with pieces from a collection that was literally designed for fourth of July! The new Americana collection at Old Navy is perfect for summer and celebrating outdoors: tons of boho blouses, maxi dresses, and lightweight knits you can wear day into night, when you’re getting cozy waiting for the fireworks to start. Plus, there are some really versatile distressed denims that you can wear well into fall and two of my all-time favorites: ruffles and stripes!

The collection is full of Americana-inspired colors and prints (and you know I never met a stripe I didn’t love), so needless to say, my closet is now stocked with a fresh assortment of striped tops and dresses for summer. I decided to keep my firework watching outfit classic with a twist: an off-shoulder striped top with distressed skinny jeans, black slide sandals and a scarf wrapped around my neck as a fresh way to show off my red, white, and blue.

The look is fun and casual enough to move around however I need to, but also keeps a focus on the classics I love so much season after season. Plus, the off-shoulder top makes me feel a little flirty – always a good thing as I snuggle up to my hubby as the fireworks go off.
