1. Bring ample liquids
TSA allows you to bring more than the standard of 3.4 ounces of liquid when you’re traveling with an infant. So take advantage of the exception and prepare your bottles of breast milk, formula or juice in advance, and pack them in a small cooler bag that fits neatly inside your carry on. Just remember to separate the bottles from the rest of your belongings and inform the TSA officer at the beginning of the screening process to avoid delays.
3. A Tote is the new Diaper Bag
Diaper bags have come a long way in the last decade, so you no longer have to sacrifice style for function, but to me a tote bag is the new diaper bag! They’re perfect for traveling with a baby, especially when it fits pocket inserts to keep everything organized. The bonus? You save on luggage space and it doubles as a great beach bag when you arrive at your destination!
4. More is More when it comes to clothing
Things can get really messy, really quickly on a plane. Pack at least 2 changes of clothes for your little one and one for yourself. Feeling fresh and clean will help you hit the ground running when you arrive!
5. Take at least 3 Blankets
I’m like the blanket lady when I get on a plane! First I spread a couple of light, swaddle blankets over the seats to keep things cozy and clean, then I use another as a light shade when Minnie sleeps. I also always have a heavier blanket on hand to wrap her in for warmth, since planes can be over air conditioned and often too cold for little ones.
6. Bring an all-in-one stroller, car seat and travel bag
Invest in a multi-functional travel system that includes a stroller with a detachable infant seat, and a travel bag that can hang neatly on the stroller. Trust me on this – it allows you to stroll through the airport with your belongings in one place and your arms free, which definitely saves time and stress during travel.
