In the world of beauty, the importance of skincare is often overlooked. How many times have you cut your skincare routine short because you were tired, running late, or completely forgot to hydrate and ended up with dry skin and breakouts?!
Over the years, and through my studies in earning my Aesthetician License, I’ve learned how everyday habits affect my skin, whether it’s the products I’m using or what I’m putting into my body. I’ve found certain factors play a huge role in whether my skin looks healthy, vibrant and glowing or dull, dry and broken out.
Here are 6 tips for keeping your skin healthy:
1. USE THE RIGHT PRODUCTS
Hydration plays a huge role in the health of your skin, so it’s important to use a moisturizer that hydrates and fortifies your skin on a daily basis. I’ve been using Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair Regenerating Cream and it’s been a game changer for my complexion. The new formula has hyaluronic acid and retinol in it, which means it smoothes fine lines and wrinkles, while it moisturizes and instantly plumps the skin at the same time- my skin has never felt or looked smoother. Best of all, it’s a moisture rich formula, so you can wear it during the day and at night to double-up on your retinol application!
2. DON’T SKIMP ON SUN PROTECTION
Using a daily SPF not only reduces the chance of developing skin caner, it also reduces the amount of sun damage that can lead to premature wrinkles and hyper-pigmentation or sun spots. So wear an oil-free SPF under your makeup everyday (even when it’s cloudy out), or choose a foundation with SPF built-in.
3. INCREASE YOUR WATER INTAKE
Hydration is key to keeping your skin supple and glowing, so be sure to drink at least eight servings of 8-fluid-ounce cups of water a day. If you have trouble drinking that enough, try fruit-infusing, it works wonders to add a bit of flavor to standard H2O!
4. GET ENOUGH SLEEP
A lack of sleep not only affects your skin’s moisture levels, it also throws off ph levels, decreasing that natural, healthy glow and youthful shine, so make sure to get your beauty rest.
5. CLEANSE WITH LUKEWARM WATER
While hot showers are amazingly relaxing, they also dry the skin out by removing its natural, essential oils. While cleansing, turn down the heat to a lukewarm temperature.
6. KEEP STRESS IN CHECK
When hormone levels spike due to stress, the skin produces extra amounts of oil, often leading to breakouts, acne and other skin issues. Do your best to keep stress at bay through exercise, meditation, reading or whatever else helps you keep stress in check.
