Summer Beauty

Just as one’s closet requires weather-appropriate seasonal updates, so does a beauty cabinet. Each year as the weather warms up, I swap Fall/Winter products for Spring/Summer essentials. With things heating up quickly in the Bay Area, I did a major shopping haul at Sally Beauty for products that will get me through the Summer.

M A K E U P

I prefer natural makeup year round- typically accented by a pink or slightly coral lip, but during warmer months, I like to show off (and often fake) a summery glow, using bronzing powder and luminizer, accented with a pink gloss or bright orange lip stain.

N A I L S

Another beauty item that’s important to update from season to season is nail color. My signature white polish is seasonless (and there’s something extra amazing about bright white polish against tanned skin!), but when I need a change, I swap white for pink, cognac, and sometimes metallics.

T A N N I N G 

While I’m not a fan of tanning my upper half the natural way, I do love a great tan on my legs. For beach days spent sunbathing, I prefer this bronzing oil that helps replace sun burn with a bronze tan.  For my upper body and face, I use a sunless tanning spray or self tanning lotion.

I think the most important Summer beauty essentials are those that protect from the sun and repair skin after sun. I love this gel to treat skin after sun exposure, as well as this lotion.  For sun protector, I like this convenient spray on sunscreen and a lip balm with SPF.
