Continuing our effort to get outside more with Narayan and explore, we recently went to the Alviso Marina County Park, near my hometown. After all these years of living in the same city, I never knew such a beautiful place existed just 5 minutes away from where I grew up!  I’m excited to partner with Band-Aid and Neosporin over the next few months, to share some of the ways I prepare for my family adventures, so small setbacks like treating wounds don’t get in the way of a good time.

The park spans 18.9-acres, adjacent to the salt ponds and marshes of the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Aside from bird watching and chasing butterflies along the bridges above the grasslands, chasing Narayan on the trail was my favorite part.

Becoming a mom has definitely forced me to lead a more active lifestyle, and being more active has really boosted my confidence in being able to keep up with him! But with the fun of outdoor adventure, comes the need to be prepared for the scrapes and cuts that come with the territory.

Aside from bottles of water, snacks and a change of clothes, we never venture out without a first aid kit, most importantly bandages. During our visit to the park, Narayan fell and cut his arm. Putting Band-Aid bandages on his wounds used to be a battle before I figured out that making it fun encourages him to keep them on! Right now he’s obsessed with the Finding Dory movie, so the Dory themed Band-Aid bandages have really come in handy.

Fun fact about being prepared with Band-Aid bandages: many people believe you should let wounds air out naturally, and that scabs are a positive sign of healing, but covered wounds actually heal faster! Scabs slow down the healing process by creating a barrier between healthy skin cells and result in scarring, so we always keep bandages on hand for all adventures.

Stay tuned for my next post where I will share what’s in my first aid kit and Halloween decorating tips!
