It’s that time of year again- the sweet whisper of a sale is in your ear and you can hardly control the urge to spend, spend, spend! While it can be hard to ignore, it’s important to go into Holiday sale season with a bit of ammo to avoid blowing all your savings on things you (or your loved ones) don’t need. Here are my tips for shopping Black Friday and Cyber Monday like a pro, as well as a list of sales happening at some of my fave stores.

Plan Ahead | Whenever I shop, it’s rarely an impulse buy. I always keep a list of things I need and things I want, so when sales roll around, I do my best to take advantage of lower prices on the wants, since those are more often the higher ticket items I don’t necessarily need, so why pay full price?! Bottom line: if you go into sale season with a solid plan of action to buy the things you need or want, you’re less likely to overspend or deal with returns.

Purchase Quality | Taking advantage of deep discounts is the smartest way to shop on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, especially electronics and designer goods! Sure, you can pay full price for that Kate Spade bag you’ve been eyeing, but it might be on sale in your second favorite color, and the savings may be worth the sacrifice of not having your first choice color. Take advantage of crossing luxury goods and high priced electronics off your shopping list during the sales- your wallet will thank you.

Brush up on Return Policies | Electronics and higher priced items often come with a final sale disclaimer, while smaller brands only offer store credit and exchanges, so make sure you’re aware of return/exchange policies before committing to a purchase.
