I haven’t had to do workwear since I left my career as an account manager back in 2012, but I loved this look so much, I know I’ll be repeating it over and over!

In my old silicon valley office, engineers wore jeans and tees, while the rest of us wore our version of dressed-up denim almost daily. For a recent meeting in NYC, I wanted to be put together, yet comfortable, so I threw together a look I’d feel comfortable wearing to the office if I were still working in a relaxed, but professional office environment.

Despite the open back shoes, I was quite warm walking a few blocks in 30-something degree weather in the city, thanks to some strategic layering. Since the navy jacket is lightweight, I wore a turtleneck underneath it and threw on a heavy coat over the top.

I hope this look gives you all some fresh ideas on how you can do workwear without sacrificing style. If denim isn’t appropriate for your office, swap the jeans for slacks!
