If you came of age in the ‘90s as I did, this summer’s grunge and ‘90s hip-hop inspired trends bring back some major nostalgia. While I can’t get behind every ‘90s trend out there, there is one look in particular that I’ve been rocking non-stop this summer: a fitted t-shirt under a slip dress.
Not only does this simple combo. remind me of the days when Clueless and Courtney Love all the rage, it’s also an easy way to modestly wear a spaghetti strap dress without having to worry about readjusting a strapless bra or revealing your arms if you aren’t comfortable doing so. It’s the perfect mix of high-low and super comfy, too – I wore this outfit on my recent trip to Sonoma and it was an ideal outfit for a day of exploring.
I love the dipped hem of this dress because it allows for more movement and makes the silhouette more interesting, but this layering trick works with spaghetti strap dresses of all lengths – short or maxi. I chose a basic white tee to go underneath the slip dress, but you can play with the type of shirt you wear under the dress, too: a ribbed turtleneck or a fitted long-sleeve tee would look great as well.
I made the overall look more current with black slides, a wicker bag, and boater hat (one of my favorite accessories for summer).
