With Summer quickly creeping up on us in the states, and the fact that I’ll be on a tropical resort vacation in Mexico this week

(I’m either on a plane or on the beach, as you read this!), I wanted to share some of my must haves for tropical, beach or resort destinations.

1. Light and Airy Dresses and Skirts. There’s nothing better than a swing dress or maxi skirt you can throw on over cut-off shorts and a cami or a bathing suit, for a day trip sightseeing or casual dinner.

For dressier engagements, I always bring at least one dress that can easily be dressed up with accessories and shoes- versatility is key when packing for a beach vacation!

2. Swimwear & Cover-ups. As a 5’10" curvy girl, I’m not a fan of one-piece swimsuits (as they never seem to work on my long torso), but I do love a good bikini.  This year I finally found the perfect vintage inspired high waisted bikini bottom (that seems like it was made for a longer than average torso!) and a balconette style bikini top with amazing support and just enough coverage, to go under my collection of printed kaftans and kimonos– my chic alternative to cover-ups!

3. Statement Sandals. Although I always take at least one pair of comfortable walking shoes for sightseeing- in this case, my Toms, a tropical vacation is the perfect opportunity to dress comfortable and dress up casual looks with attention-grabbing sandals that have a little something special- like metal details, rivets, studs, or my latest obsession: knee high gladiators. I plan to take at least three pair of statement sandals, in addition to my walking shoes and casual flip flops for the beach.

4. Accessories. If you haven’t already noticed by what I packed for my trip, I’m a firm believer in tropical vacations being relaxed and fuss free when it comes to fashion, so much in the way I use statement sandals to dress up casual looks, I do the same with accessories. Taking a couple pairs of statement earrings, a simple ring or two, bangles for nights out, a colorful clutch, classic tote, shades and a floppy sun hat for the beach, are easy ways to prepare for casual and dressier events in tropical settings.
