Personal style isn’t about wearing what’s flattering, it’s about wearing what makes you feel amazing. However, there are styling tricks that work for all women- no matter what shape or size, to create the illusion of looking slimmer.

This look exemplifies one of my fave slimming tricks: long over lean. Pairing a longline top with a skinny pant creates the ultimate slimming effect, because it conceals the largest parts of the body, skimming over the tummy, hips and thighs.

In my case, concealing my lower half under a flowy top that falls past the hip line creates an ultra slimming silhouette, compared to a top that falls above the hip, which would showcase the width of my hips.

The same concept applies to tucking in a slightly loose-fitting top into an A-line or full skirt worn high-waisted at the smallest part of your waist (which is a great silhouette for anyone who’s bottom heavy). The shape of the skirt conceals hips and thighs, while tucking the top into the skirt highlights the waistline.
