Style According to Occasion

As with any look, it’s important to think about the end effect you’re going for, then choose shoes accordingly. For example, for the office, you’ll want to opt for a more sophisticated shoe like a mule slide or loafer to pair with skirts and dresses.

For a formal occasion, go with a polished option like an embellished ballet flat or pointed toe slide in a special occasion fabric, like satin.

For casual everyday, I personally like a classic fashion sneaker or basic ballet flats — they’re super versatile but polished enough for any occasion.

Know the Rules

As you may have noticed, I tend to go for neutral colored pumps and booties, like black, nude, or white, because they pair with everything. The same rule apply for flats. However, there is one exception: If you wear a neutral colored skirt or dress, definitely play up your footwear — a fun print like leopard or a statement color like red, can instantly make any look pop.

Keep It Classic

When in doubt, remember that black and nude pointy toe flats go a long way, because they literally go with everything! The pointed toe not only look sleek, they also help elongate your legs in the same way wearing heels does, especially when wearing shoes the same color as your skin. If there’s only one flat you choose to own, definitely go with your perfect shade of nude, as well as classic black — you’ll literally be able to pair them with every outfit in your wardrobe.
