With the holidays fast approaching, I’ve been thinking more about what I’ll wear for the parties and family gatherings that are making their way onto my calendar. In previous years, I’ve gone the more traditional route with a festive dress, but this year I’ve decided to step outside my comfort zone.

As I was looking for a dress at Nordstrom, as I do every year (they consistently have great holiday options, so I always start my search there!), I came across so many gorgeous tops, I couldn’t help but want to switch up my approach to dressing for the holidays this year. I was surprised to find a great selection of fabrics and cuts that are as festive as dresses and have just as much visual impact. This blouse is a perfect example: I love how the fashion-forward, structured cut is balanced by feminine ruffles – and in this pretty lavender, it instantly stands out.

Since the ruffles add so much visual interest to the top of the look, I decided to streamline the bottom. I’ve been wearing a lot of leggings recently, so I decided to try it with this top and am so happy with the result – it’s fun yet sophisticated and, most importantly, extra comfy without sacrificing style (a quality I look for now that I’m in my third trimester, 32 weeks along).

To make sure the entire outfit stayed elevated, I chose leggings in a sturdier fabric with back seam detailing, and finished off the look with block heel sandals and a suede clutch.

So, have I given up on holiday dresses for good? No, I’m a dress girl at heart – but I’m happy to have this chic new alternative in my arsenal!
