Once a season is well underway, it’s easy to get into a routine of wearing the same outfit formula over and over. I actually enjoy having a daily uniform because it makes getting ready so much easier — but there are definitely times when I look in the mirror and think, “I need to switch things up!”
The good news is, you don’t have to dream up an entirely new outfit or replace things in your wardrobe every time you feel this way. Whether you simply want to try something new or are looking for items to take your look to the next level, here are 5 easy ways to take your wardrobe from BORING to BOLD:
Wearing a single bold print is definitely a statement, but even that can feel routine if you do it often. Solution? Try layering a couple of different prints! Stripes and polka dots in the same color family work well together, as do stripes and florals.
I personally love white jeans, but I understand how they can be scary for some women to try at first. We’re basically programmed to think that the lighter color will make us look larger than we actually are, which is totally untrue! The truth is, it all comes down to the material you’re working with— look for sturdier stretch denim that is supportive and not see-through, in a skinny jean silhouette that’s universally flattering.
A little bit of unexpected detailing goes a long way, and can completely change the vibe and boldness of your look. One of my all-time favorite pieces is this feather-trimmed blazer. Without the feathers, it’s essentially a classic black blazer. But with them, it’s a fashion-forward topper that’s an instant head-turner. Keep an eye out for pieces that can add similar interest to your own wardrobe.
If your typical style is classically feminine, do something a little outside your comfort zone — like wearing sneakers with a dress! The juxtaposition of a fancier piece with something so laidback is always a fun fashion choice. Plus, you’ll stay comfy all day and night no matter your plans, which is always a bonus.
Metallics have made a style comeback in the past couple of years, so embrace them — and I don’t just mean when you’re going out to a party. Adding something shiny, like a pleated skirt to your wardrobe, will give your look the jolt it needs to go from “okay” to “amazing” on an everyday basis.
