3 Natural Ways To Minimize Frizz

While frizz can be tamed with products, there are also 3 natural ways to tame frizz that I swear by now that summer is in full swing and my hair is extra dry.

Think of these 3 tricks as your frizz-free starter kit, before you even think of using products!

1. USE A T-SHIRT TO DRY YOUR HAIR INSTEAD OF A TOWEL.

The root cause of frizz is dehydration of the outermost layer of the hair strand, so it’s important to lock in as much moisture as possible. Towel rubbing causes unnecessary over drying and friction that can damage your hair, which leads to frizz. A t-shirt is a much gentler alternative that doesn’t require any rubbing. A basic cotton tee works perfect! For the best results, use the plopping technique in which you “plop” your hair onto the shirt vs. twisting it up.

2. RINSE YOUR HAIR WITH COLD WATER – NOT WARM OR HOT.

Hot water, like any type of heat, blows up the hair’s cuticle – aka the outer layer shaft which directly effects hair growth – increasing frizz, so always rinse with cool water versus hot.

3. SWAP YOUR COTTON PILLOWCASE FOR A SILK ONE.

Cotton is a great absorber, which is why we use it to dry our hair, but if you sleep on a cotton pillowcase, it may be sucking out moisture without you even knowing it, which leads to excess frizz. The solution? Switch to a silk pillowcase (or tie a silk scarf around your hair while you sleep) to retain the moisture in your hair rather than sop it up.

If you’re prone to fly aways, and have thick hair in general, a silk pillowcase is a major game-changer. Not only will sleeping on a silky smooth surface with minimal friction help keep your blow dry or curl pattern in tact, it decreases the chance of frizz, breakage, and even helps your skin by minimizing the potential for wrinkles!
