How to Make your Perfume Last All Day

How to Make your Perfume Last All Day (Chanel Chance, Dolce Gabbana Light Blue, Burberry Classic) How to Make your Perfume Last Longer.

When we think of finishing touches, what often comes to mind are accessories, but for me, the finishing touch of an amazing outfit is the perfect fragrance. Sadly though, a scent simply don’t last very long, unless you apply a specific set of rules to your application process to in order to make your perfume last.

I had no idea this was the case until recently asking Dave what he thought of the latest addition to my perfume collection, moving my wrist near his nose to give him a whiff. His answer shocked me, because after years of wearing perfume almost daily, he said he didn’t think I wore any! I immediately smelled my wrist and he was right- there was no scent, although I had spritzed myself with perfume that morning like I’ve done every morning since my teens.

After scrolling through countless websites searching for ways to make perfume last longer, I came up with an extensive list- most of which made no difference and some of which have been life-changing! After a month of trials, I’m happy to report that I now have a very effective list of steps to make my perfume last all day, and Dave loves every fragrance in my collection.

Here are 5 steps to making your perfume last all day:

1. When To Apply

The best time to start your perfume application process is after a shower or bath, when pores are open from the steam- but before you start spritzing, read on to step 2!

2. Create a Barrier

After you’ve opened your pores in the bath or shower, apply a vaseline or scent-free lotion to really maximize your perfume’s staying power. This creates a barrier between the perfume and your skin, slowing down absorption, therefore helping the fragrance last longer.

3. Know your Hot Spots

After you’ve showered and created a barrier, spray your pulse points or hot spots (areas where the body is warmer), including behind the ears, collarbone, inside elbows, belly button and inner wrists.

4. Break Bad Habits

Rubbing your wrists together is a big culprit of breaking down your fragrance really fast, so resist the urge and don’t rub. This was a huge eye-opener for me, as this is exactly how I’d been applying my perfume for years!

5. Storage 101

Heat and light deteriorates perfume, so to get the best shelf life out of your favorite fragrances, store upright, away from direct sunlight in a cool, dry place.

My perfume collection is full of light, fresh scents. The sexiest of the bunch is the slightly spicy Burberry Classic, which I love for date night, especially on a warm summer evening. Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue is my daily go-to. It’s fresh and subtle enough for an office environment and doesn’t irritate Narayan’s extremely sensitive skin. Chanel Chance is my latest addition and my favorite special occasion perfume. It has a touch of citrus and a tiny bit of musk. Sweet Love Intention is a slightly sweeter alternative to Light Blue.
